The assassination of Chen, climax- ing a series of daring coups and assassinations staged by members of the Chinese Youth's Iron and Blood Corps", was characterized by its grim aspect and the comparative renown of the victim, who had been many years connected with the diplomatic service of the National Government and was Chinese Minister to France in 1920-27.
At least a dozen armed men entered Chen's house. The watchmen of the house were Brst overpowered, after which the gang marched into the din-
ing room where the family were having supper. Without warning. Chen was riddled with bullets which pierced his eyes, throat and other parts of the body.
Chea's wife and daughter were cowered into silence, and inaction. The gang then produced a piece of white paper denouncing Chen as a traitor. They said they would not harm Chen's family, and then de- camped.
