SUFFICIENT ENTRIES
FOR BADMINTON TOURNAMENT
Champions Defending
Their Titles
Again
Two or three important decisions were made by the Badminton Association's championships sub-committee at a meeting last evening: the first was that the entries for the senior men's singles were sufficient to justify organis- ing also a junior title; the second that although entries for the mixed doubles were below those of previous years, this event would still be staged during the current season; and thirdly, that although five couples entered for the ladics, this was not considered enough to make a ladies' event worth while.
While the entries for the men's j First Round.-C. N. Silvä v. E. S. apalor singles only nuanaged to attain | Ho; S. H. Boone v. L. Sung; S. A. the minimum fald down by the Bröndbridge v. A. L. A these, together with the 12 in the Keown, junior event, exceed previous entries for a singles competition In Hong- kong.
One very much regretted absentee from the senior event is Patrick H. Wong, Brst-time champion of the Colony, and runner-up to P. K. Hui last year.
Wong cannot find sur fcent time from his business duties to play regularly enough, and this
was empinaised on Monday evening,
when he was unable to turn out for the Chinese Y.M.C.A., against Club do Recreio.
However, the senior singles com- petition has attracted players like P. C, E. Lee, and other prominent Uni K. Hui, K. L. Yong, M. A. Oliveira,
versity experts, and rome achtilat- Ing displays should result.
DEFENDING TITLE
Hul and Yong are defending their doubles title, and they will meet with some stift opposition, not only from their Varsity colleagues like Bun and and Lin, and Sung and Yong, but also from such stalwarts as Fincher and Kew, Y. C. Au and F. Koh, and Oliveira and Carvalho.
