E. will as soon as possible, & as earnestly as the nature of the business requires, call the attention of Her M's Govt to this question, & consult it as to the expediency of an arrangement for the purpose of putting an end to a state of things which, in consequence of the perfidious proceedings and astute policy of the Chinese Govt, threatens the prosperity of the European establishments in China, and especially the Colony, with serious & imminent perils.
