Two hundred healthy descendants of the Bounty Symphony Orchestra. mutineers, living on lonely Pitcairn Island, have badly shaken the theory that inter-marriage in a community breeds degeneracy.

Mr. J. S. Neill, who, with a medical colleague, Dr. Dunenn Cook, spent thirty-nine days on the island last year, says in a report issued recently that the theory has no sound basis if the original stock is sound.

He says the physique of the islanders is magnificent, their physical courage and strength remarkable. The island is well kept evidence of "solld work."

For eighty years the island's medical history records an aver age of only one death a year.
