The woman's body was found in a coppice near Folkestone on May 20. A green scarf was round her neck, and it was alleged that she had been strangled.
Whiting pleaded not guilty.
Mr. Roland Oliver, K.C. (prosecut- but), sald Mrs. Splers was 22, and was married before she was 17. She lived with her husband for two years. Then they parted and her husband had never seen her ngain.
