THREAT FOUND LONDON WEAK

Unprepared For Air Attacks

LONDON, Oct. 2. FEATURE of the Sunday the papers comment on crisis is the attention paid to the question of Britain's prepared- ness had there beon a war.

13

The Sunday Times states emphotic- ully that one of the morals to be drawn from the crisis which the nation must mark and digest is that neither Britain

France nor sufficiently prepared in armaments ur nir raid precautions for a great war, and adds that the responsibility rests on all parties and the nation as a whole.

The Observer, conning itself to the problem of London, pays a hand- some tribute to the efforts of the Government and the response of the public, but concludes with the com- ment that London must be conscious of its "improvised efforts during the pant few days, which must have left many gaps in its protection that could be made gooch by timely exercise indraining."

the

The paper says the ordeal of the last week "exposed the notoriously lamentable deßclencles arrangement for the defence of the democratic systems, both in Britain and Franco.'

Taking an even vigorous standpoint the Sunday Express states "whether we were prepared or unprepared the answer is 'no'."--Reuter.

Enormous Popularity

Of Prime Minister

MR.

LONDON, Oct. 2.

NEVILLE CHAMBERLAIN'S popularity with the mass of people, has reached unprecedented heights. Nevertheless, there is a not inconsiderable section of the people and also of politicians who are bitter at the torms of the Munich Agreement.

܀܀

They cannot see that the Agreement arranged by the Four Powers differs materially from the demands made by Herr Hitler at Godesberg, which ,two days before Munich, Mr. Chamberlain announced were totally unacceptable to France and Great Britain.

Lobbies are discussing the possibility of a snap clection next month. Some circles believe that Mr. Chamberlain could choose no better time for going to the country, in view of his great prestige to-day.

MESSAGE FROM HIS MAJESTY

LONDON. Oct. 3.

The King issued a message to the nation from Buckingham Palace last night.

"The time of anxiety is past and we have been able, to-day to offer our thanks to Almighty God for his mercy in sparing us the horrors of war," states the message.

"I would like now to thank the men and women for their calm resolve during these critical days and for their readiness in responding to the different calls made upon them,

"After the magnificent efforts by the Prime Minister in the cause of peace it is my fervent hope that a new era of friendship and prosperity may be dawning between the people of the world."--Reuter.

If you will come and look at this Autumn's suitings in our Talloring department you will see that several although changes are taking plade the wide stripes are still popular, other designs tend to be on the quiet side. As regards styles, it will be found that double breasted coats are not so

fashionable, whilst there is a tendency to have the trousers a little more narrow. All suits are cut by Europeans and made on the premises under their direct supervision.
