SHOTS IN LONDON POLICE COURT

POLICE SEIZE MAN WHO ACCUSED HIM
London. Sept. 8.
Three pistol shots startled Clerken- well police-court recently and one of three coloured men before the magistrate fell wounded in the leg. while a police inspector narrowly esenped a bullet.
The police immediately seized Richard Henriques, a West Indian, of Albert-square, N.W., who had accused the three men of assault. He will appear to-day in the same court on charge of attempted murder,
The wounded man was Lodi Moore, a law student, of South Villas, Cron- den-square, N.W. The others sum- moned by Henriques were O. Alakija, an engineering student, of Doughty- street WC., and L. Coker, a medical student, of South Villas. All are West Indians.
QUESTION OF DATE
Mr. Speak, the Clerk of the Court, had asked whether they were willing to be bound over to keep the peace. Alakija and Coker both agreed, but Moore said, "I have kept the peace, and would like the facts to be gone Into."
Henriques stated that the alleged nssault took place last November, in
street near Camden-square.
Mr. Walter Hedley, K.C.. the magistrate, then sked why pro- ceedings had not been taken before, nointing out that the summonses were "out of time." The case, he sall, would have to be dismissed.
MOMENTARY CONFUSION There was a pause of a few seconds, and then three reports rang oul.
After momentary confusion, it was seen that. Muure was bleeding from the leg, and in great pain.
Coker bent over his friend, trying to aid him, whlie Det Sergts, Crou chen and Bellamy, with P.e. Green- away, ran towards the witness-box and seized Henriques, who offered no resistance. He was taken out- side.
An eye-witness said to a represen- tative of the Daily Telegraph and Morning Post, "For a few seconds everybody in court was incapable of movement. The cnsc was almost the last on the list and only the voices of the magistrate and defend- ants and the rustle of papers could be heard, when the three shots rang out.
"As Moore was being helped to his feet with a patch of blood on his trouser leg, the magistrate calmly announced that the Court would be adjourned for three minutes."
INSPECTOR'S ESCAPE
Another eye-witness sald that one of the bullets missed Inspr. Parsons by Inches, denting the desk at which he was seated. Another bullet made a hole in the summons list.
Two bullet holes were afterwards found in the panelling behind the solicitors bench, which was empty. Moore was taken in an ambulance to the Royal Free Hospital, Gray's inn road, where he was detained. He was suffering from wound in his left thigh, Last night it was stated that he would be able to ut- tend Court to-day.
