In reply to your letter No... by steamer, I have the honor to inform you that in making the usual application for subsidiary coins for the use of this Department, no reference was made to Government notification No.118 - merely as apparent proof that the amount required was surplus to the wants of the Colonial Treasury.
I am to suppose that it is intended by the Lords Commissioners of Her Majesty's Treasury that Their Lordships' balances should be placed on par with Banks, as the Merchants and other local men of business are by the Colonial deposit, and be compelled to tender for funds required for Imperial services; more particularly as from communications from their Lordships they have expressed a hope that the amount of small coins consigned to this Colony will be found sufficient by the Colonial Treasurer.
