Extract from Letter from A.C.G. Shervinton & the "bravery, dated 30 Jun, 1876.

I have to draw attention to

the difficulties, which since I have been in the Colony, have invariably presented themselves in all matters of

correspondence with the Colonial Authorities owing,

I consider,

to some misconception, on their part,

as regards the wishes

of

the Major General Commanding, which leads them to refuse to receive any communication

from

this Department

upon financial matters that have not passed through

the Major General's Office while on the other hand the Major General

instructs me to adopt

a course not recognised by the Regulations, and instructs me to pursue that which the regulations provide accordingly application was made

under

my

orders for

some elucidation of
