AMAZING Of Bayer MISFORTUNE Laboratories
The
amazing misfortunes of Archibald Hynes Roberts, described us formerly carrying an business under the style of the Victoria Printing Press, were the subject of several applications by the Official Receiver, Mr. L. Rt. Andrews, in the Bankruptcy Court this morning,
In a long statement, Mr. Andrews set out the following facts:
In 1931, Roberta wns one of several persons who guaranteed a loan of $0,000 by three Indian money- lenders to his relative, the late Mr. A. E. Hall. Mr. Hall defaulted in the Interest in 1932 and, o the other guarantors, had either left the Colony or died, Roberts was called upon to pay.
The rates were so exorbitant that Roberts fell into arrears and had to pay more than $13,000 in Interest alone on the original debt of $6,000, which he had merely guaranteed.
The fear of publicity preventing him from contenting the claims and infested his money-lenders premises that the business was even- tually ruined.
50
In October, 1935 arut in June, 1930, total of twenty-two consent Judg ments were given against Roberts in
favour of money-lenders, as he had
got more and more entangled with them, still as a result of guaranteeing the loan of $0,000.
