Bourn - vitality

WHAT IS IT?

Bourn-vitality is a state in which a person's body, mind and nerves are strengthened to resist undue fatigue.

HOW DOES IT ACT? Bourn-vitality produces abundant energy arising from sound sleep and properly digested nourishment. The energy thus gene- rated is normally maintained throughout the day, and is accompanied by an agreeable feeling of cheerfulness.

HOW DOES ONE GET IT? Bourn-vitality is acquired and kept going by the action of taking a glass or cup of Cadbury's Bourn-vita every night before going to bed. In this product are the combined virtues of eggs, malt, milk and chocolate, the splendid nourishment of which is presented in a tempting and highly digestible form.

Incidentally that was a degree of Intellectual stratagem which few of

Medicy:

trench raids. of would insist on an artillery barrage to give the show away first.

Another impressive evidence of Spot's mental capacity soon develop ed. Watching him from my study window as I do, I notice that he mikes one exception to the no-bark attuck on his natural enemies. That is in the case of a marmalade fon- cut of formidable proportions and temper.

.

Spot feels that it is up to him to make no exception of this particular feline tough in the matter of

hin off, but, having once experienced his claws, he prefers to give due notice that he is about to attack in this ease. Thut enables the mar- malade cat to take a leisurely exit, and avoids any humiliating dendre- ment at the encounter,

Discretion

Please note that this also proves, t least to my satisfaction, that the silent attack was deliberately reason- ed out, and not merely an enforced habit due to the sleeping bnby, Sometimes the latter wakes up and cries without any overt cause. Spot has realised this. He tiptoes on the grass when the baby is asleep, and, en the least sign of waking, discreet- ly sluks off with drooping tail to Fume far corner behind a shrubbery. He is not going to be blamed for nothing.

This last week-end Spot had a visitor, He was smooth-haired

terrier, and, as he arrived with oc- credited friends of the family. Spot accepted him and did the right thing.

The visitor was n show dog, and, though he made no attempt to looi Spot's buried treasures, he was full of parlour tricks. He could catch a tennis ball like Hammond Belding at frst slip. He could sit up and beg He could even, ever so prettily. when right on top of his form, do dance steps with his front paws,

At first these performances de- lighted Spot. Bul presently, when the visitor minopolised all the family attention, they began to bore him. Long before Sunday was through. Spot had soured on his week-end visitor. it was all he could do to be civil to him.

Once or twice I saw him make a furtive nip at the interloper's flanks when he was performing. It was just s well when the week-end. visitors departed on Monday morning by car.

Slow Motion

Spot realised that it was up to him, as in the case of other members of the household, to speed the parting guest. But his tuil wagged only to slow motion. There was no genuine cordiality about it. He watched his by-now hated rival embark without hospitable emotion.

Onc feli that in Spot's case was abundantly right. Parting was such sweet sorrow. And the mo- ment the fellow was gone, and his people's car was honking down the uvenue, Soot dashed out into the back garden, and began a careful audit of buried bones.

All of which appears to me to In- dicate that there is a lot of human nature in dogs. Which explains a good deal of the trouble that now Afflicts humanity in general and the; continent of Europe In particular,

We must not expect the evening newspapers to blit the millennium until somehow we succeed in whip- ping the offending Adign out of our- selves. So it all comes back in the end to that change of heart which nineteen centuries of Christian duc- trine has not even yet turned into practical fact. Still, we may as well keep on trying.
