Labour Problems Behind Decision
Paris, Aug. 22, The Minister of Labour, M. Ramn- dier, and Minister of Public Works, M. Frossaro, tendered their resigna- tions to the Premier to-day and they were accepted. The departing Minis- ters both belonged to the political group known as Union Socialiste Re- publicaine, which is forthest to the left of all groups supporting the Gov- ernment.
Political elreles belleve that the resignation of the two Ministers is attributable mainly to differences of policy opinion concerning social notably in connection with the speech broadcast yesterday by the Premier in which he stressed the necessity of longer hours of work. This speech is severely criticised to-day in the So- cialist and Communist papers which denounce M. Daladier as a reaction- lary and as an instrument wishing to
destroy the principals embodied the 40-hour week.
in
The crisis that arose from the re- signation of the Minister of Labour and Minister of Pubile Works was solved after a few hours. M. Dala- dier apparenly made no attempt to persuade the departing Ministers to reconsider their decision and after consulting the Foreign Minister, M. Bonnel, and the Air Minister, M. Guy Ja Chambre, who are his personal friends, decided to offer the ministry of Public Works to the well-known Deputy, De Monzie, and the Ministry of Labour to the Deputy, Pomaret. Both offers were accepted..

General P
the balance of power within the! Cabinet.
The question as of possible reper-j cussions in he Chamber does not! arise for the time being owing to the Parliamentary recess.
In the opinion of political circles, the position of the Cabinet towards' labour syndicates may become still more difficult in consequence of the resignations, notably of M. Ramadier. It is considered certain that any at- tempt by the Cabinet to modify the principle of the 40-hour week would meet with strenuous opposition.—
