YOUR
HOME
IS YOU
10, you ever find yourself wishing you didn't aco so much of your home? If no, beware, for if your life is to make sense your home must be a success.
Your home is you. You make your home and your home makes you. It is at once the reflection and engineer of your personality.
An article the other day said that we should learn to pull up the drawbridge at
sunset, that the woman who can make her husband, want to stay home har pat nome- thing to be prout about.. Successful home ruaking is something more than interior decorating. It is a way of living. An attitude to life.
Do everything you can to make your home contfortable. Take a look at it right now and see what you can do to improve it. Don't save your best home comforts
for other people. None of this nonsense of keeping the parlour for visitors. Don't use the best dinner service just to impress quenta. Impress yourselves instead,
Vac your home; atay in it as much as you can. Turn it into a port of call for your friends; playing host is a plea sant enough game. And everything like that makes you more interested in your home, more happy in yourself.
Change your furniture-
it's like having
"AND when I think he's going
to make a row, I always change the furniture round.” I heard some one say that when I was a child.
I thought for a long time afterwards that it was some sort of superstition, and when I had done anything wrong at home I used to move a chair or two.
It's only lately that it's dawned on me that the Indy who made that cryptic, re- mark, probably meant that if she thought her husband was going to be angry with her she would change the furniture round so that he was angry about that instead of about what originally annoyed him. A very good idea.
What not to do
AM sometimes shown into front rooms which would make me angry without me having been in a temper about something clse before-hand. There are hun- dreds of things called Hving rooms in which no one has ever wanted to live.
Rooms not so bad in shape, with a bay window, a couple of arm- chairs, a
a sofa, a small table, a sort of cupboard sideboard arrangement. a dining-room table, a couple of small chairs, a picture or two, a car- pet, hearthrug, and the usual fire- place and door.
Rooms with all the smart furni- ture of the house in them, furniture that is so smart no one dares to use it.
I must say I don't blame the hus- banda, in some of the houses I have seen, for not wanting to sit at home at night.
