INVADERS TRAPPED BY FLOOD WATERS IN ABANDONED CITY
Hankow, Aug. 4. Japanese troops have achieved the occupation of Hwangmei but the city is now under water, according to Chinese reports.
A Chinese military communique states that the Japanese at Susung on August 2 advanced westward towards Hwangmei along the highway, forcing the Chinese to withdraw to the hills, north-west of the town.
The Yangtse is said to have risen steadily during the past fortnight resulting in a flooding of the area on the north bank from Siaochihkou, opposite Kiukiang, Sudeten through Kungtun to Hwangmei.
