"Run Out” Or "Stumped?"
London, July 1. During the Surrey v. Oxford U. match ni the Oval yesterday Gregory bowled a ball which struck J. N. Grover, the Dark Blues' cap- tain, on the leg, Brooks, behind fle wicket, gathered the ball and broke the wicket with Grover out of his ground.
The question arose: Was the bats- Rule 23 man stumped or run out?
of the Laws of Cricket states: "The striker out if in playing at the bail, provided it be not touched by the bat or hond, the striker be out of his ground, and the wicket be put down by the wicket-keeper with the ball or with hand or arm with the ball in hand-stumped."
