Two waves of bombing planes flew low over Canton during the early hours of the day and heavily bombed the eastern suburbs, apparently concentrating on the Tien-ho aerodrome. At least 20 heavy bombs or groups of bombs were dropped.
It was a cloudy night. Occasional flashes of lightning answered the leaping flame of the bomb explosions and the darting tongues of fire from the anti- aircraft batteries.
Here and there, also, red flares shot into the sky.. These were fired by traitors who attempted to guide the Japanese airmen to their targets. One flare appeared to have been fired from the roof of a building in eastern Shameen.

Chinese military circles point out that the floods have completely modifed the strategic situation in the north, since the Japanese have been compelled provisionally to abanden their advance across the plains of Honan.
The Chinese announced a fortnight ago that they would offer no resls- tance to the Japanese advance across And these plains, which so particularly suited the Japanese mechanised army.
