Great Britain gained strength in the Red Sea area while Italy increased her power in the middle Mediterranean as result of the recent Anglo-Italian pact, according to the tentative opinion of strategical experts here, based on early study of the new arrange-
ment.
Well-informed experts were inclined to believe from external appearances that Great Britain had struck a good bargain from a military standpoint through the strengthening of her "life-line" to her Eastern domains. On the other hand, Mussolini has re- asserted Italy's power in the middle Mediterranean, assured her military communications to Africa, and reaffirmed the right of free passage through the Suez Canal to Italy, as well as other nations.
