Chief Justice
never
refuses to take
any
business which it is desired to bring
during the vacation, and of this I have taken a full share.
During the past summer I
took the whole judicial work of the
Colony for 4 months during
absence of the Chief Justice.
I am anxious to have
the Vacation leave in the Spring for the
reason that almost all parts of
the East within reach, for two
Months vacation are almost
equally hot during August and September;
or at any rate cannot be reached
without encountering heat equal
to, or greater than that at
Hongkong itself.
The Chief Justice authorizes me
to say that he will undertake to
perform the work of the Summary
Court during my absence.
I conclude by hoping
that
His Excellency the Governor will have the goodness to forward this application backed by his favorable
recommendation.
I have &c.
