It is further recommended at the instance of the Medical staff that the adjacent Government School be absorbed in the project and converted into a smallpox ward and Fever Ward. As the East and West wings of this school are at a distance apart and the chances of contagion proportionately reduced, the suggestion is well worth the consideration of Government.

I regret that I should yet be unable to submit detailed estimates of the cost of these works, but if the project is favourably entertained by Government, plans and estimates can be prepared.

As I understand, however, that the Colonial Estimates for the forthcoming year are already prepared and cannot be any longer delayed, and as I assume some grant will be appropriated for the proposed New Hospital, I would suggest the provision of $25,000 to cover the work that may yet remain to be completed at the expiration of this year.
