POLISH PLANES-These planes, drawn up for review at the Mokotow Airdrome near Warsaw, are part of the Polish army's resources. Military training for every able-bodied man, on reaching the age of 21, has been compulsory in Poland. Service in the active army has been followed by 18 years.in the reserve. The air personnel is about 1,000 officern and men.

Russians Rescued After 1,000-Mile Drift

ARCTIC RESCUE-While the world waited for news, a dramatic battle was fought with Arotic currents, winds and storms to rescue the four Russian scientists, Ivan Papanin, Ernest Erenkel, Eugene Faderoff and Pytor Shirshoff, from their perilous position on a drifting ice fine. Eventually the icebreakers Murman and Talmyr aucceeded in reaching them and they and their scientiño records and equipment were saved. During eight months of work- and three weeks of danger, the party drifted 1,000 miles,
