If You Had Been Married

Seventy-Five

Years

What Would You Call The Anniversary?

Levon (Fife).

ANINETY-TWO-YEAR-OLD Leven couple,

Mr. and Mrs. Alexander Mackenzie, will celebrate next year the seventy-fifth anniver- sary of their wedding, but they cannot find a name for the event, for there is no recognised title for it in Great Britain.

They have already celebrated their ruby, golden and diamond weddings. Mr. Henderson Stewart, M.P. for -East Fife, who often visits them, has promised to find a

name for their seventy-fifth anniversary.

The M.P.'s Research

Accepted names for wedding anniversaries are:

First, cotton; Second, paper; Third, leather;

Fifth, wooden;

Seventh, woollen;

Tenth, tin;

Twelfth, silk;

Fifteenth, crystal;

Twentieth, china;

Twenty-fifth, 'silver; Thirtieth, pearl; Fortieth, ruby;

Fiftieth, golden;

Sixtieth, diamond;

Seventieth, (usually)

platinum.

Mr. Stewart told me, "The Mackenzies seem to be making wedding history.

"After some research I have prae- tleally decided to call, their seventy- fifth a radium wedding-radium for rurity and radiance."

Mr. and Mrs. Mackenzie have had

a family of five, four of whom are

great-grand- j

alive. "We have twenty-nine grund- children, thirty-four children, and three great-great- grandchildren," sald Mr. Mackenzie.

ONLY QUARREL

"They are scattered throughout New Zealand and America, and they will all meet for the first time next year at our celebrations.

25 Years

From Now

In the year 1903—

The population will be decreasing;

but less stable emotionally;

Children will be more intelligent,

Cities will be smaller;

Divorces will be more frequent; "My husband is a great lover of and Burns's poetry, and used to quote his poems to all our visitors," she said.

Mrs. Mackenzie says that the only quarrels they have had were in con- nection with Robert Burns

"Far fifty years I allowed him to do so, but after that I decided to call a halt."

At least half the married women will work for wages.
