Official Scheme For Combined Operations
The following offcial communique in connection with the combined
manoeuvres, which commence to- day, was issued by Command Hend quarters yesterday:
In the scheme of the exercise Hongkong is a small mainland power with large colonial possessions some 2,000 miles to the south. The normal garrison of Hongkong consists of brigade of Deld artillery, a brigade of heavy artillery, à brigade of anti- aircraft artillery, a corps of fortress. engineers and an infantry brigade consisting of dive battalions together with various ancillary troops,
On March 1 a revolt broke out in Hongkong's colony of Sofar, which necessitated the reinforcement of the local garrison by all available ships of the Hongkong navy, an infantry battalion and the anti-aircraft brigade which has been temporarily converted Into field artillery, Punitive mea- sures nro proceeding satisfactorily and a decisive engagement with the rebels is expected at any moment.
Pacifica, a large maritime power lying some 500 miles to the east of Hongkong, posseseca modern fleet and
an army of seven infantry divisions, one of which could be fully mobilised three or four days after a declaration of war. The remaining divisions would be ready to take the Aeld at fortnightly intervals.

If I had to put the treatment of minor rheumatic conditions in brief, I would say: Don't let yourself run to obesity: if you have, try starvation and thyroid gland tablets under med!- cal supervision; Cut down heavily on sugar, starch,
and alcohol;
Keep moving; drink plenty of water;
be very warmly clad, and Get hold of someone to give you
skilled physical treatment.
For the rest we can say that the future is full of promise as a result of the new research which is being undertaken.

King No Kum-yu, however, has, up to the present, grimly countered the King of Pacifico's ardent with the charitable observation: "I advances would rather shed the blood of every one of my citizens than have any daughter marry that man."
Relations between the two countries are therefore, at the moment, natural- ly somewhat strained.
If the situation does not ease in the course of the next few days, orders for the recall of the flect and of the expeditionary force will have to be issued. This, however, is an ex- tremely delicate matter, for the pre- mature withdrawal of the ships may well mean the loss of the Colony of Sofor
At the same time it is fully realis. ed that if hostilities with Pacifica break out before the fleet's zoturn to Hongkong, tho enemy's superior naval strength will probably prevent the Hongkong ships ever anchoring in their native waters again.
The exercise is under the Joint direction of Major-Generál A. W. Bartholomew, Commodore E. B. C.
