There was one interesting personality who, during the 'sixties of the last century, forged for himself a memorable career whilst a resident here. He was Sir Julian Pauncefote, who rose from a struggling practice in the courts of the Colony to become Attorney-General, Chief Justice, and ultimately British Ambassa- dor at Washington.
