China Puts Proposals To Britain, Says Tokyo Report

Britain has been approached by the Chinese Government with a re- quest for mediation between Japon and Chinn, according to Japanese press messages from Ilongkong.

CHUNGSHAN LANDING
Canton, Feb. 7. The Tai Chung news agency reports that Col. Ng, commanding troops at Tongkawan, bus telegraphed to Can- ton that five Japanese warships, and 10 smaller craft carrying a landing party, participated in the naval attack on Chungshan yesterday. Roughly 900 marines were on board these launches and other small boats.

Trained As Soldier Prince Nicholas was the uncle of King George II. of Greece, He was born at Athens in 1872, the second son of King George I and brother of King Constantine who abdicated in 1922 in favour of his son George II. Nicholas's mother was the Grond Duchess Olga, of Russia.
He was trained for the army and
took part in the Balkan wars when Greece was Involved. All his in- elination, however, were literary and artistic. He also had tact and a charming personality which made him welcome at all social gatherings. For this reason he was often employed to represent the King at. Royal and other State ceremonies abroad, be- coming well known in all the captials of Europe.
In 1902 Nicholas married the Grand Duchess Helen, of Russla, the cere- mony taking place at Tsarskoe Selo. The They had three daughters. eldest, Olga, married Prince Paul of Jugoslavia in 1923. Elizabeth, the became the wife second daughter,

1934.
When in 1923, Greece became republle and George II had to leave the country, Nicholas and his family went to Paris. Taking a flat over- looking the Bois de Boulogne, he had large room converted into a studio and settled down to a life of painting and writing.
In 1920 he published his autobio- graphy under the tile "My Fitty Years." In light vein he related much that was amusing about Greek Court Life in his carly days. In more serious mood he defended his brother King Constantine against the charge of being pro-German.
