LINK WITH REIGN
OF KING CHARLES II DISCOVERED IN LOCAL BOOK-STORE
AN
N interesting and somewhat historic document, written in 1662, has just been unearthed in a second-hand book-store in Hongkong by Mr. John Guard, son of Mr. H. Guard, of the United Press Association.
The document, written in the fine calligraphy of the days of the Stuarts, was found wrapped around a book. published in Latin in 1653 by the Cambridge University.
Written on parchment, the document is in a fine. state of preservation.
It is apparently a legal transfer of land by one John Wardrow to George Walker and James Hutchinson.
A strip of one side of the document, unfortunately, was cut off to fit the book around which it was bound.

THREATS TO SOUTH AFRICAN PREMIER
Johannesburg.
The Union Prime Minister, Gen- eral Hertzog, gave evidence recently before the magistrale at Witbank, Transvaal, agilnst two young native Jabourers employed on his
farm. They were charged with threatening to assault him and with assaulting other natives. They were fined £6 each, with the alternative of three months Imprisonment.
The Premier and his son, Mr.. Charies Hertzog, hat intervened) when the two labourers' interfered with the other natives, One of the became threatening, accused men whereupon General Hertzog dealt bia sharp blow on the shoulder with a a wolking-stick.
As he moved away the native shouted: "On Dingaan's Day you will die. We will kill you." General Hertzog then attempted to strike the other labourer, but failed 17 do so.
"He was a better swordsman than f was," said the Premier in his evidence, "and warded the blow off with a hide shield."
Dingman's Day, which is celebrated | annually as a public holiday December 16, is the anniversary uf the Battle of Blood River between the Voortrekkers and the Zulus in 1038, when 12,000 men of the forces paramount of Dingaan, the Zulu "thlef, were totally-defeated-by-460
