The American Barque "CO. Whitinine" having recently arrived in this Harbour on a voyage from Cardiff, certain complaints were made to Mr. Bailey, the American Consul, by the crew.

While investigating these complaints with the view of discharging the crew, Mr. Bailey considered that the Chief Mate named James Alword or Elword had been murdered by the Captain and two mates, who are American Citizens.
