Old Agnes Borek may have taneled she was praying, but, as a matter of fact, she was just telling God a number of things she thought He ought to know, asking Him such questiona as, "Now, what was the use of that. good Lord?" or suggesting that. For once. He might do as she asked....
A masterful old woman, she was certainly nurprised when the Lord spoke at lust and She -told-her-that ilo was not her creatut boy.

Granny Borek remembers her long te for the greater part of the book. It was only to- wards the end that I got a new light on certain incidents. But, whether she is telling the story or her chlidren are saying that it wasn't at all like that, the tale goes with enor- mous zest and yet with remarkable delicacy of perception,

Not that the book itself is a morbid On the contrary; it is the affair. pleasant excursion of an old minn recovering his youth, beautifully and revealingly written, with bright naldes on such things as the "Allahakbar. rlen." that cricket team of famous writers and others. which he cap tained.
