The Colonial Government however has been perfectly aware that the order in question did not and could not contravene or in any way affect special instructions of the War Office even as regards Military Authorities, nor could any order of the Military Authorities affect the action of the Colonial Government.
The Major General has therefore informed the Secretary of State for War that he considers the late conduct of the Colonial Government to have been gratuitously obstructive to public business - a copy of the Major General's letter is inclosed.
I am directed to add that it is not the intention of the Major General to reply to any further communication from the Colonial Government on this subject.
