LEFT-HAND TURNS TRAFFIC DANGER A pound of value
Cause of
Accidents Must Be
Eliminated
Right-Hand Turns Are Suggested As Solution
Something should be done to eliminate the danger of left-hand turns by motor vehicles at busy city intersections.
They have been responsible for many traffic accidents.
A system of warning signals should be devised or left-hand turns forbidden altogether and the ban! strictly enforced.
A Traffic official told the Telegraph that the left-hand turn was a problem that was causing trouble all over the world.
In some big cities only right-hand i turns are permitted, but such a system has never been tried out here.
Harried By Cars
Motorists have complained that compulsory right-hand turns involve a serious loss of time, but some traffi authorities say that the safety margin for petlestrians is inercased.
Commenting on the problem thei official said that pedestrians had their! responsibilities as well as motorists.
"The left-hand turn,” he conceded, "is a real problem."

A car held up by the autonoutic Voeux Road- signal at the Dea Pedder Street Intersection may have to turn left towards the waterfion! when the signal for release is given. The pedestrians also move acres the street, but, it was naked, could a driver wishing to turn left be ex ! pected to stand still? If he done will be holding up ears behind him.!
This view Was confirmed Telegraph, which carried out tests at city intersections on Satur- day. At every intersection where a left-hand turn was made pedestrians were in the way of the advancing ear, Obviously, the traffic constable ins his work cut out controlling the two- way stream of vehicles, and under existing conditions a eunstable at

(3) A suggested sign to indicate a left-hand turn; the finger points to the street. In some quarters, it Is said it this sign woahl be confusing, as it is the present riga to pass. It is suggested, however, that the pass sign shoukl be made by a eleeular inotion of the band with the arm fully extended downward.
