H.K. Tanker Wins Free From Reef

Toorak Was Never In Danger

Information has been received that the Hongkong-owned oil tanker Toorak,

route from Cebu to Palemburg, Dutch East Indies, has been successfully refloated after being aground for over a week on Tam- bollan Island..

The Toorak was relloated during the high tide on the night of Decem- ber 31, with the assistance of the Salvage tum Trabajador, which was despatched from Manila to assist the lanker.

The Toorak, which is under, char- fer to the Standard-Vacuum O} Company, is owned by the Standard Transportation Company Ltd., of Hongkong. She arrived in Far Eastern waters from the United States in mid-December, with a full cargo of oils for Manila. She dis- charged her cargo at Manila and Cebu and was proceeding in ballast to the Dutch East Indies when she ran ground on a coral reef.

The ship was never in any danger and Captain J. Gant, the master, and the 30 officers and crew remained aboard.

The Toorak is a three-masted steel tanker classified as 100 A-1 nt Lloyd's. She was bullf in 1927 by Lithgows Ltd., Port Glasgow and is registered here..
