The answer to this telegram

which came in the shape of a telegram

from the War Office to the General, and which was transmitted to this Government through the Assistant Military Secretary,

etc. gave necessary permission, and the Colonial Government at once paid

the Contribution for the two Quarters, and at the same time forwarded

a

copy of the telegram to Colonel Sherviston the Assistant Commissary General, with a view to letting him know that the Government was now at liberty to carry

on the direct correspondence

which the General's orders had hitherto

rendered if not impossible at any rate impolitic.
