Treasury he had been in direct Communication with the local Government – To this letter dated 27th April 1875 Colonel Bassano replied that the General wished Military correspondence of every description to pass through his - the Assistant Military Secretary's Office, and this Mr. Smith Acting Colonial Secretary intimated to Captain Molony in a note dated the 27th April remarking that Captain Molony would thus see that Mr. Austin [then administering the Government] had no alternative but to presume that the General laying down the rule referred to, was regular, and that he would be glad if Captain Molony would send the application for Military Contribution through the Assistant Military Secretary. Mr. Smith also wrote officially to Captain Molony to the same effect in reply to his application for payment of the Military contribution. Upon receipt of this letter Captain Molony wrote again to say that he was aware that the General Commanding had desired that communications which might be necessary for him to make to the Colonial Government not connected with Military Control Services should be sent through the Assistant Military Secretary, but that
