There is a feeling of holiday dreariness on the market and a de- cline in steel production is expected, with Youngstown production down about 12 points. Mercantile shares ignored the improvement in Christ- mas retall buying of from four to ten per cent over the whole week plus indientions of lowered inventories in many big shops. Motor shares re- flected the dip in auto production, while rails refected the recent low ehr-loading Bigures.
