Assembled for the first time, the Mayo Composità Aircraft, above, ready on the Medway, at Rochester, for test flights. Both machines of this "pick-a-back" craft have been successfully flown separately, and tests for releasing the jockey sea- plane Mercury from the parent machine will shortly be carried out. With a cruising speed of 160-170 m.ph.. New York will be brought within day's Journey of England, Speeding like a winged torpedo above the clouds during that flight is (left) another candidate for Atlantle honours. Built by the De Havilland Company for the British Government, it is hoped that this land machine, the Albatross, will nitain » cruising -speed of
more than 200 m.p...-making the crossing to America, on an average, In 15 hears. It has four Gipsy Twelve engines, with a total horse nower of 2,200, and acconimodates 22 passengers by day and 12 by night.
A violent storm of controversy broke in London when this massive statue, purporting to re- present Christ after the Crucifixion, recumbent in the tomb, was, shown in Leicester galleries by the widely known sculptor Jacob Epstein, standing at rear of the figure.
