Answered. That he lay down to sleep between 9 & 10, and was aroused by the noise at 11 o'clock or later produced by the shouts of the mate, and having entered the cabin saw that the Captain was shedding blood from a wound in the head, which the seaman James Brown cleaned and washed with cold water, & in a few minutes he left the cabin to give the alarm to the Marquis de la Victoria, which was alongside, and that six seamen, with an Officer and a doctor arrived, and almost at the same time a boat full of armed soldiers under an Officer appeared from the War Frigate "Carmen" and before he could investigate the cause of the quarrel, they carried off under arrest 8 of his companions, without his being able to speak with any of them, & for which reason he knows nothing.
Questioned. If during the voyage he has observed that the Captain has had to reprimand the crew for not performing their duty.
