French Attempt To Powers Grope for Far East Peace Plan

BUT CHINESE EMPHATICALLY DENY WITHDRAWAL OF FIGHTING MEN
Shanghai, Nov. 3.
Foreign military authorities estimate there are at least 10,000 Members of the Chinese Peace Japanese south of Soo chow Creek. Preservation Corps at Nantao and Lunghwa are withdrawing to Sungkiang, it is said.
It was rainy and misty last night, making it ideal for the landing of troops at Pootung. Japanese warships threw search-light bearns on the shoreline, and sporadically barraged the area. there are no signs of any attempt to land troops.
However, as yet
Chinese batteries at Pootung occasionally shelled Yangtzepoo and Hongkew.
A reliable diplomatic source says that the withdrawal of the Chinese Peace Preservation Corps from Nantao and Lunghwa follows attempts by the French authorities and various relief societies to "immunize" the native
sections in the vicinity of French Concession.
-It is recalled that the Japanese earlier threatened to bomb Nantao in the event of it being used as a troop base.
