(3) Then follows a revised tariff published for the information of merchants. The changes chiefly consist in adding together the different duties on one or more classes of the same kind of commodity and mean duty on all.

Charging "King Chan", "Bhi Chan", "Ko Chan", "Wai Chan", "Kim Chan" and "Lui Chan" sugars white, brown and cake are to be taken for purposes of Customs duty as if 180 catties were 100 catties. But at the Central Customs, the actual weight is taken.

The above regulation was promulgated on the ... day of ... Month of my & Year of Yung-ching - (1729.)

(5) "This month 5th day, the Hwang Jung Toishan's Exemption duty list is published by Imperial Commands." (There is no date in the book, nor is there any means of finding out what month it was.)

Then follows a list of commodities on which, however, a small duty is payable. This seeming absurdity will be explained elsewhere. See enclosure 15 extract marked page ...

(6) Those carrying bricks, stones, lime, shells, jars, coal, fuel, grass, pigs, cattle and other animals with hair will only pay half duty or tax, and small boats carrying the foregoing along the Coast will be freed from duty. With these exceptions, all the articles mentioned in the foregoing list if sent abroad to foreign ports will pay according to the tariff.
