Since then the Hopwan has left for Peking and Pang Juck who failed "to bring the Hongkong merchants to reason" has been transferred to another command where, for his sake, it is to be hoped he may find his fellow countrymen more open to conviction and less "cunning of flace".

shewing (1) the duty payable at Macao on white and brown sugar imported from Hainan (2) the meaning of the expression "Tuk Chui Sai" (3) the duties payable on certain commodities at the Fa Yu Chan station shipped from Hongkong to a northern port.

(6)° The cause of the Viceroy's recent proclamation excusing passenger boats from search and (7) shewing how a manuscript digest of the Hopwan's local tariff was obtained.

21. When His Excellency asked for a copy of the native tariff various answers were given.
