The provision made for competing with the Macao Ilations is quite characteristic. The next Enclosure is a translation of a "abridged return of duties collected at the Tung Kun in the Chane tu" by the Prefect of that Place. Both these were handed to me by the Comprador, and said to be made out from Actual Experience of Traders.
Enclosure 6 is made up from Chinese documents furnished by the Comprador, and is a comparative statement showing the likin, war tax, and the duties paid to the Prefect and the Hoppo on the shipment of different commodities from various places in the adjoining prefecture to Canton, and also to Whampoa and Macao. It also shows the duties payable on piece goods chiefly to Canton.
