Excitement was al fever pitch one day last week as bursts of firecrackers throughout the city marked re- ceipt of news on Chinese victories in North China. Only the street cleaners looked glum as they con- templated clearing up the debris. At top is shown a Chinese letting off a great string of firecrackers in the Central Dixirlet, while below is shown a section of a linge crowd which gathered outside Wing On Company to watch the freworks and cheer.

Eager for reports on the fighting in North China, crowds enfleet outside the vernacular newspaper plants in Avenue Edward VII and cheer uproariously at the reported Chinese victories.

Our picture shows one much gathering watching the fresh, hulletins on the war.
