I have the honour to report for the information of His Excellency the Governor that for some years past there has been no clerk borne on the strength of this Department.
It appears that previous to 1868, a clerk was allowed, whose salary was $48 per month.
I am personally acquainted with Gardiner Austin, Esq., Colonial Secretary.
