Mr Price's clear and exhaustive Report leaves little to add on the subject.

I have already expressed my opinion on the whole subject in my reply to Your Lordship's communication dated 19th July 1875 addressed to me while I was on a short leave of absence in England.

I also transmit copies of letter as per margin addressed by Admiral Ryder to myself and to Mr. Austin while acting as Minister for the Government.

I have only to add that in the present temper of the Military Authorities at this station in regard to Crown Lands and public works, I have but little hope of their co-operating with the Colonial Government without distinct instructions from the War Office.
