Excitement High

At Election

Brussels, Apr. 11.

In the by-election fought by M. Paul van Zeeland, the Belgian Prime Minister, and M. Leon Degrelle, the Rexist leader, the Government's head won by a substanti majorily. He formerly had no seat in the Chamber, M. van Zeeland polled 276,840 votes and M. Degrelle 19,242. The poll was large, bul there were 18350 blank or spolled ballots, which is only slightly lower than the total at the last general election. Women have no votes in Belgium, otherwise;

it is considered, M. Degrelle would have had a larger polt, as he is young und handsome and a strong speaker. As it was he only obtained 10.05 per cent, of the total poll.
