IS BRITISH YOUTH TOO SOFT?

therein more than our social ser- vices."

Service to the State

The more virile peoples-to-which- Major Rayner referred exist on the Continent of Europe.

of

The young men of Germany, of Italy, of Russla, of Poland, Czechoslovakia, are not only strong and healthy physically; they are also mentally poised and alert. They are Imbued with a vitality that has to be seen to be fully realised; and they are proud and determined, and full of a faith in themselves and in their country and their leaders. Their first duty and their pre-eminent de- sire is to serve the State, not to de- mand "rights" and privileges from the State.

They give; they do not grab. You may

them mystics, fanatics, dupes anything you like. But

call

do not forget that it was a similar spirit which animated the Eliza- bethan age and all those Inter crus when British men went forth to find

new lands, new ́adventures, new wealth, new homes.

and

There

was more love of country and pride of birth in the poorest emigrant who endured hardship in a "cófilm ship"

yet more hardship after he landed in Canada or Aus- tralia, South Africa or New Zealand, thon there is in the bulk of the young men of to-day who demand that the State should do everything for them because "they did not ask to be born into an over-populated country."

a

On the same day

when Major Rayner spoke in the House of Com- mons, a member on the other side. of the House hard physical training said: "We cannot give young people without looking after their bodily welfare, without giving them chance to be healthy and well."

That is a

typical statement of our and and clothe generation. Feed doctor the young people, and then, perhaps, they will condescend to do physical training to keep themselves út.

The physical training, you will mind and body. They are not spoon- fed.

Compare any man who lives on charity (no matter how it is dis- guised) with one who earns his keep and a bit over, and you will see what I mean.

Man does not live by bread alone. He is a spiritual being. He should be full of that spiritual pride which only self-esteem can create. That spiritual pride is to-day the posses- sion of Continental youth. It is lack- ing in the youth of this country.

Thot la my challenge to the modern youth of Great Britain.

Does YOUR BABY Cry?

Your baby does not cry for fun. It is his only way of telling you that something is wrong. Colic, indiges- tion, sour stomach, diarrhea and constipation are a few of the minor ailments that may upset your child's system and spoil his disposition. Castoria is the medi cine prepared especially for these simple children's ailments, so do not experiment with strong, harsh remedies intended for adults. Use only Cas- toria. Your child will love its pleasant taste and there are no harmful after-effects.
