Shortly after his return to China, at the close of 1877, he obtained temporary employment in the Government service here, in consideration of his knowledge of Chinese. For the last three months he has discharged the duties of the office for which he now applies; he has done so with such faithfulness and ability, that I have no hesitation in commending him and his application to the most favourable consideration of His Excellency the Governor.
