PREPARE
FOR FINAL BLOW AT MADRID LINE
MASSING TROOPS
TROOPS AROUND LONG BESIEGED CITY
Madrid, Mar. 7.
It is reported here that the insurgents are preparing to launch one last gigantic drive against Madrid, with the hope that, if it is successful, it will quickly end the civil war. The defending forces are expecting the attack at any moment, and their batteries are constantly bombarding the rebel lines north, south and west of the city, where concentrations are reported to be preparing for the zero hour.
It is reported that three insurgent columns have already begun an advance "It is in the Pozo Blanco zone, Jaen Province. Government headquarters says: believed heavy combat is imminent."
Further, it is stated, a huge rebel force has attacked along the centre of the Pozo Blanco line, while its flanks are protected by tanks.
Rebel planes have flown over Andujar but did not bomb the place, indicating that the flight was merely for reconnaisance în preparation for an infantry movement. Government troops have dynamited a bridge of the

ESCAPE TO SHELTER
GIBRALTAR
OF
Gibraltar, Mar. 8. The British steamer Spring Wear, on her way to Spanish ports, was stopped in the Straits of Gibraltar yesterday by an insurgent trawler and ordered to proceed to Ceuta.
Her master, however, refused to comply with the order and steamed at full speed for Gibraltar. He is sheltering here now.
It is reported that scarcely a day passes without insurgent warships detaining a foreign vessel. The majority of these are Danish and Norwegian. They are taken to Ceuta where they are compelled to discharge their cargoes and then released.

Explosion In Express On Spain Border
Cerbere, March 6. While border guards were checking passports of passengers aboard the Paris Express, on the way to Spain, 'bomb shattered one' coach without injuring one of the 15 passengers in it. One passenger, Jean Salles, dis- appeared after the blast and was later arrested at Perpignan, carrying papers which revented that he is an onarchist. He insisted that he had had no connection with the bombing. The people have two theories. The first is that anarchists planned the bambing ns e protest against the closing of the Franco-Spanish border by the Non-Interventionist nations. The second is that Spanish Insurgents planted the explosive in the hope of cutting the Government's communica- tions with France-United Press.
