Band And Pipers Make Debut

Making their first publie appear- ince here, since their arrival about a month ago, the band and pipers of the 1st Battalion The Seaforth High- lunders (Ross-Shire Buffs--The Duke of Albany's) created a deep impres- slon among local music enthusiasts at the King's Theatre last night when, by, kind permission of Lieut-Col. J. Muirhend, M.C., and Officers, they rendered delightful musical items and gave displays of Highland danc- ing, in corfunction with the gala screening of Warner Bros. Cosmo- politan production, "Hearts Divided," starring Marlon Davies.

The theatre was filed to copacity. and notleed among the official party were His Excellency the Governor, Ludy Sir Andrew Caldecot, and Caldecott, accompanied by Capt.

R. Cragg, A.D.C., His Honour the Chief Justice, Sir Atholl MacGregor, and Lady MacGregor, Hon. Mr. Taylor. Hon. Edwin Taylor and

Hils Honour Mr. Sir Shou-son Chow,

Mrs, and J. Hayden Justice J. Hayden, und Dr. and Mrs. S. W. T's, Under the able conductorship of Mr. F. G. Baker, A.n.c... the band played delectable muste, and the pro- ted requests longed applause and repeated for encores of every item amply testi- fed to their skill and ability. They proved beyond a doubt that theirs was one of the best military bands the Colony has been privileged to hear.

Equally entertaining was the music provided by the pipers, led by Pipe- Entering Major D R. MacLennan.

the theatre by the left entenner, they round the stalls for a time paraded before proceeding to the stuge where four of them gave displays of High- land dancing, while Major Mac- The in- Lerman supplied the muste. tricate steps of the dancers, and their perfect rhythm and liming, were a delight to watch and evoked con- siderable admiration from the aud!-

C

The programme opened with the National Anthem, followed by the the patrol overture to "Euryanthe," "Wee MacGregor," and Highland Parade. Then followed the display of Highland dancing, after which the band played speelal dance musle, comprising "Sing, Sing Sing. "King's Navy." "Paddy" and "I Trovatore."

"Hearts Divided" also provides ex- cellent entertainment. Intermingled with comedy provided by these three well-known funsters, Charles Ruggles Edward Everett Horton and Arthur Trencher, the story tells of the love of (Dick Napoleon's brother, Jerome Powell) for an Ambricon

Kirt (Marion Davies) and the attempts of Napoleon (Claude Rains) to frus- trate their happiness for the sake of France.
