Get a friend to DEAD aloud a passage from a book or newspaper. Istip a plece of white paper or cardboard over the passage and note how many words you can read after your view has been cut off. Count the total number of letters tius seen before they were pronounced.
Repeat the experiment several times and calculate the average number. This number of letter spaces between the word fixated and the word being spoken is called the "eye-voice span."
