CORRESPONDENCE Red Tape
To the Editor,
Hongkong Telegraph.
Sir-If regidar readers of your valued
cannot
their find paper grievance redressed, by the proper authorities, it is only obvious that they would, tum to "The People's Paper 10 ventilate their grievances In the hope that, shooting without aiming, somehow or other the bullet might and its billet.
I do not know the ordinances in respect of demolition of houses but I do feel that should a house have to be demolished, it should at least have. be
to be 011 act of
of courtesy that the
tenant of the neighbouring house given a formal month's notice so that should he wish to escape the nuisance of banging noises, dirt and danger he has at least a month's notice to find some other premises.
My house has been discovered to be avished by white ants on evidenced by several collection, the demolition
before,
and in its
weakened
of the adjoining house is dangerous to my house in my estimation, and without being served by tiny notice, the demolition of the adjoining house commenced and which not only gives me continuous convenience, fram dust and noise but the possible danger of the collapse of my own house.
When I wrote to the Pubile Works Department, it took me eight days to receive 1 reply which me appears "pro-landlord" they state that
they
had
to
only
given permission for simultaneous Demolition" including my house, and that they understood that I had already been served with notice to which I replied that the Tundlords have apparently over-
ridden them by Ignoring their au- thorization as Instead of simultane- nus" they have started with "partial" demolition-and, as regards to my having been served with notice, that they must have possibly been served with wrong information.
Meanwhile the adjoining house has been partly demolished and de- molishment is continuing. It appears that there must be red tape some- where, as unless a person would.or could afford litigation, they have just to submit to what is I balleve as red lape anul humbug, and if the Govern- ment permits this it might be possible that someone might take a step for- wurd with higher authorities.
