EFFECT OF FLEET'S DEPARTURE
MEMBERS of the League Management Committee of the Hongkong Football Association listened with something approaching amazement to a letter received from the Royal Navy at their meeting on Monday even- ing.
The letter requested permission for the Navy to post- pone all first division league matches from January 12 to March 13 as the Fleet would be absent from the Colony.
Having recovered from their astonishment the com- mittce politely, but firmly, replied "Nothing Doing."
The letter, which was torse and to the point, firstly asked that two senior division players-Wride and Lo Page--receive permis- jaion to be relegated to the junior team, and secondly that the first division team's fixtures between January 12, and March 18 be cancelled until a later date as the Fleet is leaving Hongkong and would not be returning until March.
Due consideration was given to both requests, and the follow- ing decisions reached.

One intriguing position arises.. The F.A. has given permission for two senior players to be relegated to the Junior division, which takes effect forthwith. Therefore, if the Navy choose to accept the Association's first alterative, to field a first divi- slon team-presumably these players will be required. Presumably in such an event the Navy will have to make further application for their re instatement as senior players.
